This deeply personal diary spans from May 25, 1982, the day following the death of her husband Tibor Szobotka, until February 27, 1990, and offers a raw, unfiltered account of the author’s journey through profound grief and spiritual solitude. In this reflective and often heartrending narrative, Szab Magda pours her heart onto the page, confronting the overwhelming pain of loss and the persistent presence of memory. “Liber Mortis” is not only an elegy to her beloved life partner, but also a meditation on the enduring power of love, the complex nature of mourning, and the invisible thread that binds souls even after death.Unlike her novels, which are often shaped by plot and character, this work is entirely autobiographical, exposing the inner workings of a woman whose public strength was matched by private vulnerability. Through beautifully crafted prose, Szab reflects on her shared life with Szobotka, their intellectual and emotional companionship, and the stark absence left behind.”Liber Mortis” transcends the personal to touch on universal themes of mortality, memory, loneliness, and faith. It is both a tribute and a literary monumentan unflinching testament to a love that endures through silence and sorrow, and a remarkable expression of Szab Magdas emotional depth, lyrical power, and spiritual resilience. This work stands as a singular document in Hungarian literature, bridging diary, essay, and elegyoffering readers not only insight into Szab’s inner life but also solace in the shared human experience of loss.Hungarian Translation – Overview (Attekintes)A “Liber Mortis” (latinul: “A halottak knyve”) Szab Magda egyik legszemlyesebb s legmegrzbb rsa, amely mlt helyet foglal el a magyar irodalom legmeghatbb gyszmvei kztt.
