First performed in 1973 at the Csokonai Theatre in Debrecen and republished by Jaffa Kiad in 2023, this compelling play blends personal memory with collective history, reflecting on the cultural and spiritual life of Debrecen, the authors beloved hometown.Written to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Csokonai Vitz Mihly, a key figure in Hungarian literature, the drama transcends the boundaries of biography to become a broader meditation on heritage, identity, and civic pride. Szab Magda uses the figure of Csokonai and the historical echoes of the city to explore how individuals and communities are shaped by their pasts, and how memory can be both a burden and a source of strength. Her lyrical prose, deep philosophical undercurrents, and masterful command of structure make this work a remarkable blend of historical reflection and poetic drama. Kilts, vros! is not merely a celebration of a citys literary legacy, but a poignant reminder of the enduring human need to connect with place, history, and meaning. This 2023 edition reintroduces the work to contemporary readers and theatre enthusiasts, reaffirming Szab Magdas role not only as a novelist and essayist but also as a dramatic voice capable of transforming public memory into enduring art. It is a significant contribution to Hungarian cultural history and a resonant example of literatures power to preserve and reimagine the past.Hungarian Translation – Overview (Attekintes)A “Kilts, vros!” Szab Magda egyik kiemelked, drmai mve, amely mlyen gykerezik Debrecen vros trtnelmben s szellemi rksgben.
