Saint John Berchmans

The son of a Belgian shoemaker, John Berchmans served and studied in the household of a priest, making pilgrimages to a nearby Marian shrine as often as he could. Despite his fathers objections, John discerned his vocation and become a Jesuit novice. He was impulsive but kind and friendly, and went about his ordinary tasks with extraordinary love. In 1621, John died before his ordination at the age of 22.Feast Day: August 13Patronage: Altar Servers
