The Pastor and the Modern World

Reformed Ministry and Secular Culture

How are preachers and teachers to engage with the broader world in which they live? This book presents the first of several Boyer Chair Lectures delivered at Westminster Theological Seminary, each one focused on the relationship between the preacher and the modern world. William Edgar discusses the influence of secularism, philosophically and culturally, and how we might respond to it. R. Kent Hughes lays out an argument for affectionate preaching in today’s culture. And Alfred Poirier looks at Gregory of Nazianzus as a physician of souls, welcoming pastors to follow in his footsteps. Readers will find wisdom and encouragement here as they develop their approach to engaging with a world that desperately needs the gospel.
