Thinking Through Addiction

Thinking Through Addictionoffers clear, biblical, and compassionate guidance for understanding one of the most complex and difficult struggles people face today. J. Ryan Davidson helps readers think carefully about addictionwhether to substances, behaviours, or destructive patterns of lifeand addresses the pressing spiritual questions it raises: What causes addiction? How should Christians understand it? And where can true freedom be found?

Rather than reducing addiction to purely medical or psychological explanations, this booklet explores the deeper spiritual realities involved. Davidson describes addiction as the repeated sinful misuse of created things in ways that harm our souls, minds, and bodies. Scripture calls us to recognise both the seriousness of these patterns and the need for lasting transformation.

Drawing from passages such as Proverbs 23, the booklet examines the nature of temptation, the progression of addiction, and the idolatry that often lies beneath it. Yet its message is not one of condemnation, but of hope. The gospel of Jesus Christ offers real help for those caught in cycles of sin and destructive habits, pointing to the possibility of true change through His grace.
