The first movement,Allegro, is noted for its lyrical quality reminiscent of Dvok, yet it culminates in a darker, more brooding atmosphere.TheAndantinofeatures a theme played by the viola that hints at folk-song influences, accompanied by a wistful melancholy that flows into the followingIntermezzo. This movement is characterized by song-like episodes and showcases some of the most virtuosic writing within the quartet. The final movement presents a theme followed bysix variations, concluding with a fugal ending. The theme carries a ballad-like quality with an elegant suggestion of 18th-century style. Notably, modality emerges in the second Adagio variation, leading to rhythmic excitement in the subsequentPresto. One of the most admirable aspects of this quartet is its conciseness, marking it as Vaughan Williams’ first major composition of any kind.Hungarian Translation – Overview (ttekints)Ralph Vaughan Williams: String Quartet in C Minor (Kotta)egy vonz m, amely ngy ttelbl ll, s sszesen krlbell25 perchossz.
